Make foggy yellow headlights clear again!

Yellow Headlights Life Hack… From a Realtor!

Yes, Realtor’s are normal people too. We work hard, play hard and constantly seek new and easier ways to make life better for ourselves and our clients. Providing value before, during and after closing is great, but becoming a friend who shares life hacks and recipes… Well that’s also adding value! 🙂

I drive a Lexus. She is easy on the eyes, safe and reliable. While she may be a thirsty girl, she makes up for it when I hear my clients request we ride in the Lexus because of how quiet and comfortable it is. She takes good care of me so I try to take good care of her too.

About six months ago I noticed the headlights on my car were decidedly yellow and foggy looking. Cleaning them with the rest of the car did nothing to improve them. I purchased a little bottle of something that was specifically formulated to restore them and set about rubbing it on in a frantic fashion. It was disappointing to see my yellowy lenses again after all my hard work. The difference was minimal… Quite frankly not worth the elbow grease.

Last week I was sent a You-Tube video where a guy used an easy-to-find (if you don’t already have it at home) liquid, on a soft rag to rub that yellow all away. Seriously!  It was that easy. So I tried it.

What was the liquid? Deet!

The Mosquito Repellent Life Hack

Step One:  Glove up. Gather a clean, soft rag and a spray can or bottle of mosquito repellent. (Deep Woods OFF, or Repel works great -Deet 40%)

Step Two: Apply the liquid to the rag. Don’t spray near the car, the mosquito repellent is harsh enough to take a layer off the plastic lenses so we don’t need to find out the hard way that getting it on the paint is a bad idea.

Step Three: Rub the lenses with the rag. I found a gentle circular motion to be quite effective. It didn’t require a lot of elbow grease before the yellow headlights became clear – The yellow appeared on the rag instead! You may notice also that the headlights feel a bit tacky. Not to worry. It goes away.

Step Four: Wash the headlights to get rid of any extra mosquito repellent. This makes sure that if any got accidentally wiped onto the paint, it is removed.

Step Five: Go and wash your hands. Deet can cause skin and eye irritation in some people.

So there you have it. An easy way to take your old yellow headlights and make them look younger again. Cheaper, quicker and easier than new lenses!

On another note: It’s that time of year again. If you need a recommendation for your seasonal snow tire change-over, just ask. Want a really good guy to do periodic oil changes and a quick vehicle physical?  I’d be happy to share my guy with you too.

The safety of your friends, family and clients is paramount… As is YOUR safety!
