What are Boulder Realtor working hours ?
More importantly, what are your expectations for my Boulder Realtor working hours?
From time to time I wonder if I work too hard. Not too hard per se, but too long hours… because there is a difference. If I have the time, I seem to fill it with work. I do like my work, but I’m aware that I’m also more productive after a little R &R time too.
I should plan to “not have the time” to work every now and then, I guess and hold firm to my Boulder Realtor working hours. 🙂
This specific subject has been thrown at me repeatedly over the last week.
It started with a conversation with a fellow Realtor and friend over lunch, whereby she questioned why I worked such long hours and what boundaries and expectations I set my clients. She is raising 3 small kids while her real estate career thrives! She is living the advice she is giving and that speaks volumes.
Work hours and productivity again came up in a conversation with my coach, Clara. She asked me to be honest with myself about my time… to MAKE room in my life for time off work… and to delegate the things that could be delegated so that I can eek out 15 minutes here and there that will soon add up to having “extra time” – for me!
And because apparently I need no fewer than THREE signs from the universe, the following email arrived in my inbox this morning…
This was in response to a rant from a pilot complaining how people don’t understand proper directions:
A friend had the following conversation with a Realtor some years back:
F: “Which direction do the bedrooms face?”
R: “Towards the back.”
F: “No, I meant which cardinal direction do the bedrooms face?”
R: “I don’t know what you mean.”
F: “Well, on which side of the house does the sun rise?”
R: “I don’t keep up with things like that.”
I guess we don’t spend enough time outside just looking at stuff. I don’t spend nearly as much time gazing as I’d like.
I have not lost track of sunsets and sunrises, but I sure as heck wouldn’t admit it to my clients if I had! Like a lot of people though, I am in danger of missing the most important things in life if I can’t take my eyes of my computer, switch my phone to silent, gaze toward the sky, feel sunshine on my skin, hear the wind in the trees and let my mind wander freely in thought – or no-thought.
Clients… Are you prioritizing time out too?
My job is being a Realtor. I also wear the hats of “mom” to my dependents, housekeeper, event planner, landscape architect, gopher, friend, property manager, investor, girlfriend, handyman, pilot and more.
I would be crazy to think that my clients have any less going on than I do. When I’m with them, they are real estate buyers and sellers, but I know in the back of their minds, chances are they have other responsibilities, distractions and stressors. Part of my job is recognizing that, trying to get a feel for what else takes up brain space and affects our working relationship. I need some idea of their ability to juggle one more ball. And I need to be able to empathize and find “work arounds” as needed.
One thing you will here most of my clients say, is I advise them to take time out. Date night, weekends away, or simply turning off the phone and tuning out for an day or evening. Spend time with family, friends or alone. Whatever it takes to unwind and reset periodically.
This is hugely important because like me setting Boulder Realtor working hours, clients need to have down time in order to be productive, make the right decisions, handle the more testing moments that can accompany any real estate transaction.
Clients, like Realtors, also need to set expectations regarding hours and days that they are available.
Boulder Realtor working hours for me are: Monday through Friday, 9am-6pm.
I’m actually in the office by 8am, but I take the first hour each day for my “morning routine”. That’s where I set and review goals, recognize what Im grateful for and plan my day. Outside of these regular Boulder Realtor working hours, I’m available by appointment weekday evenings and weekends.
If you are my client and we are working with a contract, a negotiation is in play or today is a deadline, you are my first priority – no appointment is necessary!
